The shipping industry accounts for 3% of global CO2 emissions with container ships being the most polluting ship type. In fact, data shows that if global shipping were a country, it would be the sixth largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions. Perhaps the most concerning element is that this is an increasing trend. According to The International Maritime Organisation, shipping emissions are set to increase by up to 50% by mid-century if stringent measures are not taken. With manufacturers shipping in components from all over the world, pro audio companies are helping to drive this increasing trend. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
We established Reclaim Audio to be different. We have made the decision to source all of our components from within our home UK market, rather than ship them in from all over the world. Through our contacts within the pro audio industry and other UK-based businesses, we have been able to source every part of our speakers from within 200 miles of our factory.
By sourcing materials closer to home, we believe that our loudspeakers have a lower environmental impact than those which contain components shipped in from across the globe.
On top of the obvious environmental benefits of taking this approach, it also gives us more control over our supply chain and shorter lead times for our products.
“Reclaim Audio was founded to provide a sustainable and socially responsible solution to audio professionals who want to make a difference,” states Reclaim Audio founder and MD, Andrew Bishop. “With container ships taking products around the world, loudspeakers can trave around 14,000 miles before they’ve even been sold. Removing this distance from the equation is just one of the ways that Reclaim Audio is working to reduce the environmental impact of investing in a new sound system.”
